New Guns Laws for Illinois in 2026

It’s no secret that Illinois lawmakers (also known as Democrats who came into power by gerrymandering the fuck out of the state of Illinois) have a hard on for their constituents. It’s long been known that there’s not a gun law that’s not harsh enough for these bozos and this year they’ve added a little more strangehold on us, the citizens of the state of Illinois.

So here’s the list of added gun bills that infringe on your rights as Americans.

SB0008 – Increases gun storage safety requirements and reporting requirements for lost and stolen firearms.

This bill, known as the Safe Gun Storage Act, prohibits gun owners from storing their weapons in an unsecured manner at any location where they know, or reasonably should know, that the gun could be accessed by a minor, a person at risk of harming themselves or others, or by a person who is prohibited under state or federal law from possessing a firearm.

To secure the weapon, under the law, owners will be required to keep them in a locked container so that they are inaccessible or unusable by anyone other than the owner.

Gun owners who violate the law could be subject to civil fines of $500. But those fines could go up to $1,000 if a minor, at-risk person or prohibited person obtains the firearm, and as high as $10,000 if such person uses it to kill or injure someone in the course of committing a crime.

In lieu of those fines, courts could instead order the gun owner to perform community service or pay restitution for violating the law. The new law also provides that gun owners could also be subject to civil liability in private lawsuits.

However, the law also provides that gun owners will not be found in violation of the law if a minor, at-risk person or prohibited person obtains their firearm by unlawfully entering the premises.

In addition to the new storage requirements, SB 8 also requires gun owners to report a lost or stolen firearm to law enforcement within 48 hours of discovery, as opposed to the previous 72-hour requirement.

So why is this a bad thing?

According to this law, if I have a child in my house, and I keep my firearm out while I’m at home because I want it accessible should I need to defend myself or my family, I could be arrested. Let’s be honest – why do we have firearms at home – protection of ourselves and our families – in case someone breaks in the house with the intent to do me or my family harm. The same reason I keep a fire extinguisher and fire blanket in my house – in case there’s a fire.

If someone breaks into my home and time is of the essence do I really have time to get to my safe, put in the combination and grab my pistol before the bad guy(s) get to me or my family? No I don’t. Because dynamic incidents are usually extremely fast (within 3-5 seconds), and they’re usually very close (within 7′-12′).

There has also been a lot of documented times where a minor grabbed the home defense firearm and used it in a lawful act of self defense or defense of another. A few I always bring up are the tales of 2 different 12 year old kids who defended their houses while they were being watched by grandma and bad guys broke in and were in the process of beating up grandma when the kids acted. This happened in 2020 and 2021 when the easily manipulated drones in this country were still wearing masks and told to get their 37th booster shot.

So if not this, what can be done?

We need to educate our kids about firearm safety. We need to teach them it’s an object that can hurt, and it’s definitely not something they should even touch without mom or dad close by. Not only that, but we need to teach them to be good, responsible human beings. I see so many videos on social media nowadays of kids acting like fucking retards and the parents are always quick to explain away their children’s behavior and make it like it’s no big deal. Well guess what, the reason your kid got shot while he was out robbing someone is because you failed as a parent. Don’t blame the victim for defending himself/herself against your dumbass kid.
